Psykhe Press
Psykhe Press is climbing out of her shimmering chrysalis with her wings in a wad, a shiny new and gooey indie press.
After much searching and contemplation through all the myriad of publishing possibilities and prospects. I was especially drawn to the indie presses and their stories. It seems each has a unique vision and voice, prompting their own imprint. Lord knows my stuff is unique! I have a stack of [very nice] rejection letters attesting to how wonderfully unique my work is, and that my books don't fit tidily into a category or genre.
The tomes and tales of faerie and tarot, written and illuminated for adults are tricky to snug under a heading on a shelf!
As I researched what the creation of my own little independent press would entail, I realized that twenty years ago, by hook and by crook, I had indeed already created my own press when Out in Left Field published The Day Rue Flew! Today, the developments in the technologies of printing and distribution have made the process feasible. In 2000, my creation of Out in Left Field was audacious and a bit outrageous. The books were printed in Barcelona, Spain, on those fabulous rolling drums of old and air freighted to arrive in time for my big opening at a local gallery, under the full moon on Friday the thirteenth of October, 2000.
My name was Kim Left at the time, and after my third marriage in 2014, I decided to drop the surname professionally, so the pun of Out in Left Field was less charming. My main character, the brave faerie, Rue, is unconsciously based on Psykhe, the goddess of butterflies, soul and breath. Literally of inspiration. Psykhe Press, she is!
Beyond my life's works: the books of Ruevelation, and The Journey of the Fool in First Person, I'd like to include the unique and inspired books of others. I am surrounded and related to some extraordinary writers and artists. It is an extension of the dream I am already living to publish their wonder-filled and relevant works, as well. They include two of my three brothers (though I am sure Randy has a story in him!); Joel Schnackenberg is a physicist and has written a series of science fiction/fantasy books and Matt Schnackenberg is a professor of rhetoric and an accomplished poet who will soon author an insightful autobiography, when he gets the moments to write it! Not least is my adventurous son, Jake Left, who has inherited the gift of clairvoyance along with the writer gene.
